'Retrofitting houses with energy saving and energy generating equipment is not easy, but can save the planet and money! Our bungalow now has Thermal (hot water) and PV (Photo-voltaic) Solar Panels and an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP). The photos show the thermal panels in summer and winter (not so efficient) and that the PV panels had to be installed on a frame above our garage, due to lack of additional roof space. The ASHP provides warm air throughout the house, which occasionally has to be supplemented by our gas boiler. The gas boiler is also used to heat our water in the winter months. This combination of technologies results in us using around 8,000 kw/hrs of power a year and fuel bills of less than £1000!'
